T is for Turkey!

In preparation for the upcoming holiday (and entire week off!!), we studied the letter T this week. We made so many turkey arts, it's crazy! Here are our turkey Ts.

Our foam turkey (just for fun)!

As Head Start, we ask parents for any ideas they may have for lessons plans, such as group work, art projects, or cooking activities. A parent suggested centerpiece turkeys so this is what we made from and idea I found online at http://www.austinchronicle.com/food/2013-11-08/thanksgiving-is-for-everyone/

I sent home a turkey feather at the end of last week with each student as a parent involvement activity. They families were to decorate it in any way they chose and send it back to go on our Seven Habits board. This is a picture of our turkey dressed in his decorated feathers. Mrs. Ketron and I share a bulletin board so this is her class and mine!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

This week we have learned to say no to drugs through red ribbon week. I forgot to takes pictures, but I did happen to remember on Wednesday for "caps out drugs" when we wore our hats all day!

Here is our door for the door decorating contest!

The Start of our Garden

We finally were approved to buy our plants!! We are expecting a rain this evening, so I took the students to visit our garden, clean out old plants and weeds, and to plant our plants. We worked hard to remove the roots and weeds that had been growing all summer. They were able to have hands on interaction with our vocabulary word SOIL! They did such a great job!

The students helped dig the holes for our plants and were fascinated by all the roots they saw! Here is a picture of our planted garden!

The first two are cabbage, the second two are broccoli (we think!), then we have garlic and cauliflower, and finally onions and peas. We planted peas seeds, not plants, so you can't see them yet! We can't wait for our plants to produce food for delicious stew we want to make later in he year!! Stay tuned to check our garden's progress!!
