I is for insects

This week we learned about insects and the letter Ii.
Ii is for insects. We put pictures of insects into the shape of the letter Ii.

We learned that insects have three body parts, the head, the thorax and the abdomen!

An insect we focused on was the butterfly. We read Waiting For Wings by Lois Ehlert and learned about the butterfly's life cycle. We made a cool pasta craft to show our knowledge. Flying around our life cycles are the ladybugs we used to "fair share" the dots. "One for you, one for me!"

We also read the book The Very Clumsy Click Beetle by Eric Carle (special thanks to Mrs. Wagner for letting us borrow it). Then we decorated our very own click beetle to take home. We are really proud of our work!

We visited our garden and found larva in the soil. The kids were so fascinated by them and I was impressed with their vocabulary we had just learned being put to use. We use our garden as a PBL (project based learning). This week we planted strawberries, tomatoes, and some bell pepper in our garden to accompany the garlic chives that are still growing from our fall harvest!! They are such treat garden helpers!

On Friday, some students from our school were competing in the Special Olympics Track Meet in Somerset. We worked together to make signs to cheer them on! Goooo Pirates!!
